Safeguard Vision And Dental Plans
Safeguard offers its US employees both dental and vision care benefit programs. It provides its service to nearly 1.8 million members. Its primary operations are in California, Florida, Nevada and Texas. Safeguard was acquired by MetLife in 2008.

Safeguard offers three types of dental plans to its members:
Dental Indemnity: In this type of plan you can select a dental professional of your choice. More paperwork because you have to pay for dental care yourself and then submit claim forms to your dental insurance provider. Depending on the agreement, your provider will reimburse you full or part of dental care cost. In certain cases, deductible has to be paid.
Scheduled Benefit: This plan has a schedule of covered procedures and each procedure has a specific reimbursement amount. This eliminates the need for co-insurance calculations of other indemnity plans.

Prepaid Dental: Prepaid dental plans pay benefits only when you use network providers. These plans do not have a deductible and cover most preventive care at no charge. You pay a specific dollar amount for other care you receive. All the pre-paid plans provide adult and child orthodontia.
SafeGuard vision plan includes coverage for a yearly vision exam from the vision care professional of your choice. You can get discounts on frames, lenses and contact lenses if you purchase these items from a SafeGuard contracted vision care professional. This vision plan is offered alongside SafeGuard dental plans and is not available separately.
SafeGuard has affiliate eye doctors throughout their service area. Before the member takes an appointment with the eye doctor, he should make sure that the doctor participates in the SafeGuard Vision program. Without using an affiliate doctor, a patient will be required to pay all the examination fees and any other fees incurred. Vision care insurance covers various costs such as Examination fees, Glasses and Contact lenses.
