Indian health insurance part had now emerged as a slacker in Asia, as nearly 70% of the Indians are not sufficiently covered by health insurance against the major illness. 'Health Matters' Index, a study conducted by Tata AIG life insurance company, has discovered that 72% of the total 1,200 respondents surveyed from six major metros, would not be able to continue themselves and their dependents financially for more than a year if their main basis of income was abolished due to sickness or accident.
