Preferred Provider Organization ("PPO") dental
insurance plans
These plans are of “closed panel” type of dental insurance
plan. In this case the insurance
company signs an agreement with dental doctors so to form an association
of treatment providers. As a part of the negotiation with the dental
insurance company, the dentist, in response for being incorporated
in the association or network and expectantly getting an augmented patient
load, has decided to discount their fees. The members who are under this
coverage must make their choices from the list of network providers.
For sure, the terms and conditions of each PPO dental
insurance plan differ, but on the whole you may consider a PPO pan
to be a modified product of a capitation plan and a traditional indemnity
dental insurance plan. As HMO, the PPO will provide you a list of treatment
providers to make your own choices. If you do so the dental plan will
almost certainly give its utmost profit.
As an option, and fairly similar in nature to the
traditional indemnity dental insurance plan, some PPO's will allow you
to get dental
treatment from a dentist who is not a part of their network (a "non-participating"
dentist). The substitution is that on doing so, you’ll be punished in
form of penalties if you do so with a lower level of plan profits ((higher
deductibles and co-payments).
